Café Training Assistant – Part-time

Job title: Café Training Assistant – Part-time

Reports to: Café Area Manager

Overview:

Team Domenica is a Brighton-based charity that removes barriers to work for people with learning disabilities. We are looking for an all-rounder to assist across our different café sites to offer practical support to our young people.

We need someone with a solid background in hospitality, with strong baking and food prep skills and/or confident barista skills.

Responsibilities and duties

Café and customers

  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for customers and encourage their continued use of the café
  • Prepare and cook food in accordance with the manager’s specifications in a safe and hygienic manner
  • Ensure that the café is clean, well-stocked and well presented at all times.
  • Develop positive and direct relationships with all candidates (young people), staff, volunteers, and customers.
  • Contribute to cleaning tasks and upkeep of food hygiene standards
  • Assist the café manager with ordering and stock control
  • To open the café and cover for the manager as required in overseeing the café
  • Support our young people to make consistently high-quality coffees using our own blend of coffee beans
  • Support our young people to produce cakes and savoury goods of the highest standard to distribute to our cafés and clients
  • To carry out record keeping and basic paperwork

Candidates

  • To communicate effectively and have empathy with candidates with a diverse range of learning needs
  • Following training and supervision be competent in delivering candidate training using the ‘Systematic Instruction’ training method
  • To develop positive and meaningful relationships with candidates and other members of the staff team to promote the ethos of Team Domenica.
  • Be flexible to work across different sites to cover sickness and holiday

Requirements

  • Knowledge and/or experience of working with young people with ASC, SLD and MLD.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Have a passion for hospitality, food, and coffee
  • Safeguarding awareness
  • Positive and can-do attitude

Team Domenica is committed to the safeguarding and protection of young people and vulnerable adults. Employment will be subject to the receipt of two satisfactory professional references and enhanced DBS certificate. Safeguarding Training will be given once the successful candidate begins their role.

Hours: zero- hours contract available, hours depend on the business needs. May include Saturdays

Salary: £9.50 p/h
